Healing soft tissue with electrical stimulation therapy

Let's talk about muscle strains, muscle pulls, trigger points, and muscle spasms.

One of the things I use in the office to help with these common injuries is muscle stimulation - or E-stim. It's a low-volt muscle stimulation. It works the soft tissue to help with the healing process, bringing more blood flow to the area. It also helps with pain, inflammation and things like bursitis and tendonitis. It is a versatile modality often used as part of your chiropractic treatment.

Very simply, I just put the pads on the area that needs the focus of treatment and turn it up to your level of comfort. You'll feel a contraction of the muscle, and then it relaxes; so it's alternating contraction and relaxation. Contracting the muscle via electrical stimulation helps improve the way the affected muscle contracts. This increases blood flow, which brings more oxygen and nutrients to the tissue to help it heal faster.
